Flight controls Flashcards
How is the elevator controlled?
Mechanically
AOM 2-13-10 page 1.
What is the memory item for a Jammed Elevator?
Elevator Disconnect..PULL
AOM 1-03-20 page 6
How can disconnect elevator controls be reconnected?
On the ground only by maintenance. AOM 2-13-10 page 2.
What indication is provided in the cockpit when the elevator systems are disconnected?
An amber light on the center pedestal illuminates to indicate the disconnection.
AOM 2-13-10 page 2.
How many channels does the Horizontal Stabilizer Control Unit (HSCU) incorporate?
Two channels, main and backup. AOM 2-13-10 page 5.
Can the autopilot control the pitch trim via both channels, main and backup?
No. The autopilot can only trim the horizontal stabilizer using the main channel. AOM 2-13-10 page 15.
What is the memory item for Pitch Trim Runaway?
Quick Disconnect Button…PRESS AND HOLD. AOM 1-03-20 page 1.
Continuous command of any trim switch is limited to how many seconds?
3, even if the trim switch is pressed longer than 3 seconds. AOM 2-13-10 page 9.
How are the ailerons controlled and operated?
The are mechanically controlled, hydraulically operated by hydraulic systems 1 and 2. AOM 2-13-15 page 2.
Can the ailerons be operated in the event of loss of both hydraulic systems?
Yes, the ailerons can be positioned manually
AOM 2-13-15 page 2
What are the memory items for Aileron/Roll Trim Runaway?
Quick Disconnect Button…PRESS AND HOLD, Aileron System 1 and 2…OFF. AOM 1-03-20 page 7.
How many rudders are there?
2, forward and aft
AOM 2-13-20 page
How are the rudders controlled and operated?
They are mechanically controlled, hydraulically operated by hydraulic systems 1 and 2.
AOM 2-13-20 page 2
Both rudder systems are powered below what speed in flight?
Below 135 KIAS. Above 135 KIAS, Rudder System 1 is automatically shut off
AOM 2-13-20 page 4.
Explain rudder hardover protection and when it activates. 4
It is designed to activate in case of runaway rudder.
It reverts to rudder mechanical reversion if all of the following conditions are met:
- the rudder is deflected above 5° +/- 1°,
- > 130 lbs force on the pedal to counteract rudder deflection
- both engines are running above 56% N 2 .
