What is the engine anti-ice source?
HP bleed air
What happens when engine anti-ice is activated?
HP bleed air heats the engine intake AND continuous ignition is engaged
What is the FAULT light indicating?
Engine anti-ice valve position does not correspond to commanded position OR valve is in transit
What happens to the wing anti-ice on the ground?
Auto shuts off after 30 seconds
What happens with the wing anti-ice during electrical failures?

When are probes heated?
Auto in flight or when PROBE/WINDOW HEAT is ON
What is the max speed for the windshield wipers?
230 kts
When are icing conditions present?
OAT (or TAT in flight) <10C
Vis moisture
Vis <1sm
snow on ramp
What is the AUTO PROBE/WINDSHEILD mode do?
No heat without engines
Low power heat on ground and normal in flight when engines are running
What is the exception to applying anti-ice in icing conditions?
No anti-ice when SAT
What is the icing limitation in regards to slats?
Prolonged flight in icing with slat extended shall be avoided!
How can the wing anti-ice be ground tested?
Pushing the WING ANTI-ICE pb on the ground will first open the valves,
after 10 seconds, the valves are displayed in amber
after 30 seconds the valves close and open automatically after takeoff
Hot air:- 3 outboard leading edge slats of each wing.- Engine air intakesElectrical heating:- flight compartment windows.- pitot heads, static ports, AOA and TAT probes- Water-waste drain mast.
Which part of the airframe is anti-iced?
No
Can APU be used for airframe anti-icing?
- An independent air bleed from the high-pressure compressor protects each engine nacelle form ice. Air is supplied through a two positions (open or closed) valve that the crew controls with two p/b, 1 for each engine.- Hot air from the pneumatic system heats three outboard slats (3-5) of each wing. Air sis supplied via 1 valve on each wing.
What are is the hot air taken from for the engine anti-icing and the wing anti-icing?
- If the electrical power supply fails, the valves close.- If the electrical power fails, the valves open.
What happens if there is NO electrical control to the wing anti-ice valve / engine anti-ice valve?
- 30 seconds, then the valves close.- Light still illuminates- Valves re-open once lift-off.
How long does the WAI ground test last? What happens after that time? What happens at lift-off if still on?
N1 limit reduces, N1 increases.
What happens to the N1 and N1 limit, when EAI is selected ON?
TAT (pitot heating low, auto changes to normal once in flight.
Which probes are NOT heated on the ground?
- In flight- On the ground (except tat probes) provided one engine is running.
In the AUTO position, when are PROBES and WINDOWS heated automatically?
230kts
What is the maximum speed for the use of windscreen wipers?
-40 degrees during climb or cruise.
Below what temperature can de-icing be switch off?
Less or equal to +10 degrees OAT or TAT, visible moisture, clouds, fog, low visibly less or equal to 1NM, rain, snow, sleet, ice crystals or standing water, slush, ice or snow is present on the taxiways or runways.
What defines icing conditions?
On the BLEED page.
On which ECAM page can you get information about the anti-ice system?
The engine anti-ice valves will open automatically anti-icing is ensured.
What is the position of the engine anti-ice valves in the event of an electrical power supply loss?
230kts.
What is the speed limit for operating the windscreen wipers?
No.
If one engine anti-ice system fails can the second one take over and provide anti-icing for both engines?
The N1 limit for that engine is automatically reduced.
What happens to engine RPM when engine anti-ice valve is open?
Electrical heating protects pitot heads static ports Angle-Of-Attack probes (AOAs) and Total AIr Temperature (TAT) probes. Three independent Probe Heat Computers (PHCs) automatically control and monitor Captains probes F/O probes and STYBY probes.
How does the probe heat heating work?
Flight compartment windows sensors pitot probes static ports and waste water drain mast.
Which areas are protected with electrical heating?
Three outboard leading-edge slats of each wing and engine air intakes.
Which areas are protected with hot air?
The window heating comes on automatically when at least one engine is running or when the aircraft is in flight and manually before engine start when the flight crew switches ON the PROBE/WINDOW HEAT pushbutton switch.
When does the window heating come on?
On the ground the TAT probes are not heated and pitot heating operates at a low level (the changeover to normal power in flight is automatic).
Are the TAT probes heated on the ground?
- On landing- Bleed leak detected- Loss of electrical power
When do the wing anti-ice valves automatically close?
- Wing: Valves CLOSE- Engine: Valves OPEN
In what position do the Wing and Engine Anti-Ice valves fail if electrical power is lost?
- Engine Anti-ice ON- Engine flameout detection- Failure of the EIU
When does continuous ignition automatically operate?
No. It is a separate system independent of the pneumatic ducting
Is the engine anti-ice part of the normal pneumatic system?
- When OAT (Ground) / TAT (Flight) 10 degrees C or below with visible moisture present- Prior to and during descent in icing conditions (including temperatures below -40 degrees C SAT)
When do you use engine anti-ice?
Switch/anti-ice valve disagreement
What does a “FAULT” light in the ENG ANTI ICE pushbutton indicate?
- Blue ENG ANTI ICE light ON- ECAM: ENG ANTI ICE- ECAM: IGNITION- N1 limit is reduced (amber tick on N1 indicator)- N1 idle is increased
With ENG ANTI ICE ON what indications will you see?
Increase N1 to 70% for a minimum of 15 seconds prior to selecting a higher thrust
What should you do if there is significant engine vibration due to ice?
Yes, because idle thrust is increased
With engine anti-ice ON, is your descent affected?
No
Should you use wing anti-ice on the ground?
No
Can you use the APU bleed for wing anti-ice?
- Switch/anti-ice valve disagreement- Low pressure is detected
What does the amber “FAULT” light in the WING ANTI ICE pushbutton indicate?

On the ground, with the PROBE/WINDOW HEAT pushbutton in AUTO, when are the probe and mast heaters activated?
On the ground with the engines stopped
When will the RAIN RPLNT pushbutton not work?
