Fire Detection Flashcards
What happens when both Fire Detection loops fail?
After 5 seconds, they will trigger the fire alarm
How many Halon bottle are there?
2 per engine, 1 for APU, 1 shared for all cargo holds, 1 in the lavatory waste bin (auto and non-alerting)
How many smoke detector cavities are in the cargo holds?
1 forward, 2 aft (321 has 3 aft)
When will the detector’s trip?
When both loops indicate a fire or one loops detects and the other is inop
Where is the avionics smoke detector?
Air extraction duct
What does the ENG FIRE button do?
Silence aural warning Arms squibs Closes hydraulic fire shut off valve Closes low-press fuel valve Deactivates the IDG Closes the pack flow control valve Closes the engine bleed valve Cuts off FADEC power
What does the GEN 1 LINE pb do?
During an avionics smoke detection, it will:
Disconnect generator 1 from electrical system
EXCEPT will continue to power one fuel pump in each wing tank
What is the CAB FAN?
Cockpit/cabin recirculation fan. Turned off during aviaoinics smoke detection
When you are complete with shutting down both engines, what remaining systems will the battery power?
VHF 1 and the PA
How long does it take to discharge the cargo hold Halon?
60 seconds, remember the smoke lights will remain on for the rest of the flight because the hold is full of Halon particles
Engine: 2 eachAPU: 1
How many fire bottles per engine / APU?
Yes, a fault in one loop (A or B) does not affect the warning system.
Is fire detection available if a loop fails?
Fire warnings.
What happens if both loops fail within 5 seconds?
- Silences the aural fire warning- Arms the fire extinguisher squibs- Closes the LP fuel valve, hydraulic fire shut off valve, engine bleed valve and pack flow control valve.
What happens when a FIRE switch is released out?
“DISCH” lights up amber when its fire extinguisher bottle has lost pressure (being discharged).
Agent DISCH (amber) indicates what?
ENG FIRE test: a continuous repetitive chime sounds, MASTER WARN lights flash. ENG FIRE (APU) warning appears on ECAM. O the fire panel ENG FIRE p/b lights up red, SQUIB lights come on white if discharge supplies are available. DISCH lights come on amber. On the ENG panel (pedestal), the firelights come on red.
What are the indications for an ENG FIRE test? And an APU FIRE test.
This p/b is used for manual APU emergency shutdown- The APU LP fuel shutoff valve closes.- The ECB receives a signal to shutdown sequence (same as the APU automatic shutdown without cool down).- Silences the external warning horn.
On the external fire panel what does the APU SHUT OFF Switch do?
When a detector finds smoke in a lavatory, it sends a signal to the CIDS to FWC to cabin and cockpit warnings. Each lavatory waste bin has an automatic fire extinguisher. (Wax type, melts the discharge).
What happens if a lavatory waste bin catches fire? And lavatory smoke?
2 fire bottles supply 3 nozzles (1 FWD 2 AFT). Each bottle has 2 discharge head 1 for each compartment.
How many fire bottles for CARGO Fire Extinguishing?
2
During a cargo smoke drill, how many DISCH lights are illuminated?
The agent is NOT discharged overboard due to bottle overpressure.
A red disc in the aircraft skin near the APU indicates what?
- SQUIB lights up white when the pilot pops the APU FIRE p/b is released out.- Test p/b
When is white SQUIB light illuminated?
One.
How many fire extinguishing bottles are available for fighting an APU fire?
One smoke detector and one smoke detection control unit.
Each lavatory is equipped with…
Silences the aural fire warning arms the squib on the APU fire extinguisher closes the low-pressure fuel valve the APU bleed valve the X bleed valve shuts off the APU fuel pump and deactivates the APU generator.
What is the result if you press the APU FIRE pb?
One smoke detector in the air extraction duct of the avionic ventilation system detects smoke in the avionics compartment.
What kind of smoke detection is installed in the avionic bay?
