Ice and Rain Protection Flashcards
Source of Engine Anti-Ice
- Hot Air from low pressure stage of respective engine bleed to engine cowl
Source of Wing Anti Ice
- Hot air from respective engine side heat 3 outboard leading edges
- Can be sourced from opposite engine via XBLEED if on side source fails
- APU Bleed Air CANNOT be used
Systems electrically heated to prevent ice
- pitot and static port heating systems
- windshield anti-ice system
- water lines heating system
What happens to anti-ice valve if electrical or pressure signal is lost
- engine anti-ice valves fail safe open
Single or Dual ice detector failure
Single failure - remaining detector is still automatic
Dual failure - anti-ice operation is only possible in the manual mode.
Logic operation of REF A/I Modes with mode selector in AUTO
Off - engine and wing anti-ice valves will open if ice is detected at 1700’ or 2 mins after takeoff
ENG - eng anti-ice valves open after engine start; wing anti-ice valves will open if ice detected at 1700’ or 2 mins after takeoff
All - eng anti-ice valves open after engine start, wing anti-ice valves will open above 40 knts
How long do the anti-ice valves remain open and active after ice is no longer detected
5 mins
When does window heat automatically turn on
With at least 2 AC sources
* in flight with single AC source only Left window is heated (right will be heated if left fails)
Automatic heating of air data probes
- engine running, or
- aircraft airborne
When is wing anti-ice automatically tested
- 10 mins after takeoff, or
- 10,000’
*test duration is max 60s
