What is ibroprofen
Non-steroidal anti inflammatory drug that works by reducing hormones that cause swelling and pain.
How does ibroprofen work
Reduce the production of prostaglandin by blocking the enzyme cyclooxygenase
IT IS A NON SELECTIVE COX INHIBITOR
Indications of ibroprofen
Relief of mild to moderate pain
Pyrexia with discomfort
Soft tissue injuries
Contraindications of ibroprofen
Dehydration
Hypovolaemia
Renal insufficiency
Child with chickenpox
Active peptic ulcer/haemorrhage
Upper GI disturbance
Last trimester of pregnancy
Pt with previous hypersensitivity
Pt with sever heart, renal or hepatic failure
Frail elderly pts with fractures
Taken within 4 hours and max dose
Side effects of ibroprofen
Nausea
Tinnitus
Vomiting
Cautions of ibroprofen
Asthmatic pts
Pts above 65yr
Coagulation defects
Crohn’s disease
Pts with heart disease
Hypertension
Dose of ibroprofen
12yrs-adult = 400mg
Interval 8 hours
Max dose 1.2g in 24hours
Oral route
Effects of ibroprofen
Should work within 20-30 mins
Will last 4-6 hours usually
