I vs II generation Flashcards
Pharmacological effects of the I generation antihistamine drugs
1) Antihistamine action (histamine receptor blockade)
2) Anticholinergic action (reduction of exocrine secretion, increased viscosity of secrets)
3) Central cholinolytic activity (sedative and hypnotic action)
4) Strengthening the effects of CNS depressants
5) Potentiation of the effect of catecholamines (fluctuations in blood pressure)
6) Local anesthetic effect.
Pharmacological effects of the II generation antihistamine drugs
1) They have very high specificity and affinity for H1 receptors.
2) Do not cause blockade of other types of receptors
3) Do not possess M-anticholinergic action
4) In therapeutic doses, do not penetrate the blood-brain barrier, have no sedative and hypnotic effects
5) Have a quick onset of action and a pronounced duration of the main effect (up to 24 hours)
6) Well absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract
7) There is no established relationship between drug absorption and food intake.
8) Can be applied at any time.
9) Do not cause tachyphylaxis
10) Easy to use (1 time per day)
