What is a hypothesis?
A
An informed guess the researcher thinks might be true and can be tested.

How does a researcher use a hypothesis?
A
The researcher looks on what others have published based on three functions.
- Researcher avoids repeating research that has already been done
- Reading provides the researcher with an idea and gives their research direction
- Ideas can be shaped into a hypothesis the researcher wishes to test by carrying out sociological research
