First line treatment of HYPO: If patient is conscious and able to swallow

A

Fast-acting carbohydrate by mouth (10-20g glucose/sucrose)
* 4-5 Glucose tablets
* 3-4 heaped teaspoonfuls of sugar
* 150-200 mL fruit juice
Repeat every 15 mins for 3 cycles

Long-acting carbohydrate or next meal if due to sustain blood glucose levels
- Avoid chocolate/biscuits (fat delays absoprtion)
- Sulphonylurea induced hypoglycaemia
