increase heart rate

higher stroke volmume

high-output congestive heart failure

pulmonary congestion

caused by:

inadequate iron intake

malabsorption through gi tract

chronic blood loss

increase requirment during pregancy (Fe2/3+)

What are the symptoms of iron deficiency?

A

fatigue

exertional SOB

tachycaridia- compensation of the heart

pallor, headache, glossitis-swelling of the tongue

koilonychia (spoon nails)

lower cognitive function

pica: abnormal craving to chew on ice/chalk/crayon or dirt
