Beta blockers Flashcards
What is acebutolol?
its a beta-1 selective blocker with ISA partial agonist of beta receptors
undergoes extensive first pass metabolism
What is atenolol?
a cardioselective beta-blockers
elminated in the kidney
What is atenolol good at treating what condition?
angina pectoris
What is betaxolol and what is good for treating?
its a beta-1 selective blocker; that does not cause bronchospasms
glacoma
What is bisprolol?
beta-1 selective blockers
What is celiprolol?
its a beta-1 selective blocker with ISA-partial agonist of beta receptors
What is metoprolol? and what is it used for
its used or 90% of prescriptions; its a beta-1 receptor blocker; undergoes extensive first pass metabolism
angina pectoris and those with congestive heart faliure
What is nebivalol?
its a beta-2 selective blockers
added benefit of reducing TPR by modulation of NO release
Which types of drugs should you be cautions about taking with nebivalol?
- caution w/ atrioventricular conductors; like calcium antagonist (verapamil, diltiazem)
- antiarrhymic drugs like disopyramide
- and inhibitors oc CY2D6 like fluoxetine, paroxetine, propafenone, quinidne)—ints needed to metabolize drug
- don’t use with out beta-blockers
What is carteolol?
blocks beta-1 and 2 receptors: inhibits all places beta receptors are found
What is carvediolol? and how can it be used?
it has alpha and beta blocking activity;
combine it with labetalol for alpha and beta acitivity, works well for congestive heart failure
What are some side effects of carvedilol?
dizziness
fatigue
postural hypotension
What is labetalol: how is it administered and what are its features?
its a beta 1 and 2 blocker
combine with carvedilol for apha and beta activity
give through IV
features:
- strong antioxideant
- hypertensive crisis
What is levobunolol?
beta-1 and 2
What is nadolol?
its a beta-1 and 2 blockers; has a long half life of 10-20 hours eliminated in the kidney
