Hypo/Pituitary/Gonad Axis Flashcards
Male Negative Feedback H
Testosterone. Keeps hormones in narrow window
Female Negative Feedback H
Progesterone & Estradiol
Both Neg Feedback H
Inhibin - specific for pituitary
Estrone
E1 - in fat. Levels too low to detect
Estradiol
E2. Synth in ovaries
Estriol
E3. In skin.
Testosterone
Anabolic - bones & muscle Androgenic - Puberty, gemetogenesis, 2* characteristics, Libido
Progesterone
Makes egg Breast dev/lactation
Leydig cell
Around seminiferous tubules. LH responsive. Stimulates conversion Cholesterol to prognenolone = more testosterone
Sertoli cell
Contact w/spermatozoa, FSH responsive. W/testosterone from Leydig = gameteogenesis Primary source of inhibin
Theca Cells
Ovary by follicles. LH responsive. Produce progesterone & androgens. No aromatase (so can’t make estrogens) so androstenedione diffuse to granulosa
Granulosa Cells
Contac w/oogonia. FSH responsive. Can’t convert progesterone to androgens so diffuse to theca.
Progestins
21 C
Androgens
19 C
Estrogens
18 C
