Hypertension: Nursing Considerations

• Assess HR and BP. Hold if heart rate less than 60
• Monitor glucose in diabetics,
• Assess s/s heart failure.
• Do not stop taking abruptly
• Teach-Contact provider for signs of
  worsening heart failure, respiratory symptoms, low HR, or erectile dysfunction, or other intolerable side effects.

• Assess BP, for anaphylaxis, monitor potassium, UA for protein and CBC for neutropenia
• Establish pregnancy status
• Teach: s/s angioedema or facial swelling and to seek emergency treatment, report persistent cough, avoid salt substitutes due to high potassium

• UA for proteinuria,
• Renal Fct – BUN, Cr, GFR

• Assess BP or for arrythmia, hold for bradycardia
• Monitor CHF patients for worsening
• Monitor EKG
• Monitor liver function tests
• Teach: contact provider if HR under 50, avoid grapefruit juice, photosensitivity, good poral hygiene, slow position changes
