primary- lacking clear cause

affecting large and medium arteries
gnerally initiated by endothelial injury (RF- smoking,HTN, inc chol/lipid, DM, being male)
composed by a core of lipid debris, with foam cells (macrophage thats ingested fat) and lymphocites. fibrous cap/ roof of smooth muscle.
core can calcify.
what is arteriosclerosis
the hardening of blood vessels without lipid deposition.
Effects of HTN on the body.
diagnosis of HTN and management of HTN (NICe flow chart)
measure blood pressure in both arms. and at two points in consultation.
if between 140/90 and 180/120 offer abulatory blood pressure readings.
if above 180-120 with retinal hemorrage or papillodema needs to be admitted for management.
