hypersensitivity reactions Flashcards
type I
inappropriate production of specific IgE antibodies to harmless antigens (peanuts, penicillin, pollen). responsible for asthma, hayfever, penicillin allergy
type II
IgG and IgM antibodies binding to antigens, cells or tissues leading to cell or tissue damage. rheumatic fever
type III
antibody- antigen complexes being deposited in tissues. activates complement system leading to inflammation.
type IV
CD4 + t helper cells travelling to site of antigen recruits macrophages leading to inflammation. TB
examples of type I
asthma, hayfever, pencillin allergy
examples of type II
good pastures syndrome, rheumatic fever
examples of type III
Hypersensitivity pneumonitis (farmers lung)
examples of type IV
TB, chronic hypersensitivity pneumonitis
