A
  • UK population has one of the highest serum cholesterol levels
  • 2/3 have cholesterol greater than 5.2
  • Heterozygous familial phypercholesterolaemia is one of the most common familial conditions

Hyperlipidaemia Aetiology

A
  • Inherited: familial; dyslipidaemias, hypercholesterolaemia, hyperlipidaemia, apoprotein disorders
  • Secondary: medical conditions (hypothyroidism jaundice, Cushing’s…), drugs e.g. thiazide diuretics, glucocorticoids, Ciclosporin,, pregnancy, obesity, alcohol abuse
