A
-Raised serum levels of total cholesterol, LDL cholesterol and/or triglycerides

Hyperlipidaemia Epidemiology
A
- UK population has one of the highest serum cholesterol levels
- 2/3 have cholesterol greater than 5.2
- Heterozygous familial phypercholesterolaemia is one of the most common familial conditions

Hyperlipidaemia Aetiology
A
- Inherited: familial; dyslipidaemias, hypercholesterolaemia, hyperlipidaemia, apoprotein disorders
- Secondary: medical conditions (hypothyroidism jaundice, Cushing’s…), drugs e.g. thiazide diuretics, glucocorticoids, Ciclosporin,, pregnancy, obesity, alcohol abuse

Hyperlipidaemia Assessment
A
- Measure both TChol and HDL-C to achieve best estimate of CVD risk
- Measure full lipid profile
