HYPERHIDROSIS Flashcards
1
Q
How are sweat glands innervated?
A
post ganglionic sympathetic fibers release ACh instead of NE onto sweat glands
2
Q
describe the process of fluid secretion leading to hyperhidrosis?
A
ACh binds to cell and increases intracellular Ca2+, this activates K+ Cl- channels mediating K+ Cl- and H2O efflux–> cell shrinkage
then Na+, K+, Cl- come into cell causing Na+ to be kicked out via Na+/K+ ATPase–>Na+ to move paracellularly (water follows Na+, lots of sweating)
