What is the difference between a complete and a partial bed bath?
The health care provider does most of the washing, but encourages the patient to help with a complete bed bath
nurse washes only body parts that cause a discomfort or risk OR the nurse washes the parts of the body the patient cant reach
What are bag baths?
disposable cloths in a packet that can be heated in a microwave, you dont rinse the patient, these decrease the risk of bacterial growth by not using a bath basin
How do you clean the perineal area?
front to back
dry thoroughly
retract foreskin of males and wash tip of penis
consider same gender caregiver for this
What are some key steps in denture care?
wear gloves
remove dentures
scrub with toothbrush and tepid water
inspect intactness of dentures
inspect mouth for breakdown
put back in
hand hygiene
Is it important to check before performing nail care on a diabetic patient:?
YES VERY, we could cut into the skin and cause a chronic wound that could get infected

COMBING IS THE MOST EFFECTIVE
wear gown and gloves
comb by section from scalp to end of hair
wipe with towel after each pass
comb daily
discard every comb after each use
