hydrotherapy Flashcards
What Hydro therapy treatment is best for an acute injury
Cryotherapy
Name three benefits of using heat during a massage
Increase blood flow, increases elasticity
Give a few examples of techniques that use conduction to transfer heat to the body
Hot stones, hot towels, hot compress
Contrast therapy is most effective at what
Increase blood flow
Name three contraindications for cold therapy
Reynon syndrome, blood pressure issues, neuropathy, multiple sclerosis
What are the four stages of a cold treatment?
Cold, burning, tingling, Aching, numbness
What hydrotherapy application would be best to treat stiffness and decreased range of motion?
Heat
Define vasodilation and vasoconstriction. What Hydro therapy treatment creates each one?
Vasodilation is the increase in size of blood vessels. This can be caused by heat. Vasoconstriction is the tightening of blood vessels, this can be caused by cold.
Define mechanical versus reflexive effects and give examples of each
Mechanical effects include increased range of motion, postural changes. Reflexive, effects include better sleep, decreased pain, better digestion.
Define convection and give an example
Heated by vapor, moving around, example include sauna
What is a sits bath
Soaks lower pelvic region
Name three effects of spinal fluxion treatment
Circulatory, whip effect, increase blood flow, relax, spinal, and paraspinal muscles
