Hydraulic & Pneumatic Systems Flashcards
What systems typically rely off Hydraulics?
Hydraulic systems are usually the primary means of accomplishing the heavy work in the airplane. Jobs such as raising and extending the landing gear, moving major control surfaces, and operating the brakes.
What are a couple advantages to Pneumatic systems over other similar products?
Air is everywhere and if the system happens to leak, the hangar floor remains clean. Compared to high pressure hydraulic systems that require heavy, solid, fluid and return components, Pneumatic components are relatively lightweight. No fire hazard.
What do high pressure systems rely off of?
Heavy duty applications
What would be the sequence if the primary hydraulic system failed to lower the gear?
The system will include a cylinder of compressed nitrogen with a selector valve that defaults to hydraulic for normal ops, if the gear were moved down and a hydraulic failure were to occur, all the pilot would need to do is turn the switch to pneumatic and it would discharge the air pressure into the gear actuators, extending it only. No retraction can be done this way.
