What was the Iron Curtain?
A border that seperated the countries part of the Warsaw Pact and those who weren’t which were under communist takeover.
What is containment?
Containing the spread of communism during the Cold War.
What was the Truman Doctrine?
Truman received $400 million to provide economic and military assistance to countries resisting communist takeover.
What was the Marshall Plan?
A plan to rebuild Europe in 1947 by George Marshall by letting all European nations receive U.S dollars to rebuild their economy’s only if the products were made in the U.S.
What methods were used to “fight” the Cold War?
Many different kinds of economical, military, ideological, and political strategies were used to fight the Cold War and the US used many of these to prevent the spread of communism.
What was the Berlin Airlift?
Due to the Berlin blockade by the Soviet Union, 2 million people in West Berlin were left without electricity, food or fuel. Therefore, the US/President Truman sent 2 millions tons of supplies to West Berlin via cargo plane for 10 months.

How did the Chinese Civil War End?
The Communists took over the Chinese government and establish the People’s Republic of China. The nationalist party/government of China fled to what is now modern day Taiwan.
How did the Korean War start?
On June 25, 1950, North Korea’s army began to invade South Korea, marking the beginning of the Korean War.
What was the outcome of the Korean War?
North and South Korea ended up with similar borders as before along the 38th parallel.
What was President Eisenhower’s approach to the Cold War called?
Eisenhower’s policy was called Massive Retaliation and said to respond to communist threats with unlimited force.
What is Mutual assured destruction (MAD)?
The full-scale use of nuclear weapons by 2 or more sides.
What was the goal of the failed Bay of Pigs invasion?
The goal was to try and overthrow the newly assembled communist government in Cuba by Fidel Castro.
Why did East Germany build the Berlin Wall?
To prevent anyone from escaping East Germany into West Germany.
