Biology 3/2 studying flashcards
What are somatic cells?
Body cells
What are Gamete cells? What cells are considered Gamete cells?
Sex cells which are egg and sperm cells.
What are the 2 types of chromosomes?
Autosomes and sex chromosomes?
What are homologous chromosomes?
Chromosomes with the same genes, but may have different versions of the gene.
What are diploid cells?
Cells that have 2 copies of each chromosome. These are somatic cells.
What are haploid cells?
Sex cells that only have 1 copy of each chromosome.
What does fertilization result in?
It results in a diploid zygote
What are the 4 phases of the cell cycle?
PMAT (phrophase, metaphase, anaphase, telophase)
What is chromatin?
DNA in a loose form
What are duplicated chromosomes?
Chromosomes that consist of two sister chromatids.
What are sister chromatids?
Two halves of a genetic chromosome that have the same genetic information.
What is a centrosome?
Organelles that make the structural spindle fibers.
What happens in prophase?
The nuclear membrane breaks apart and the chromatin condenses into chromosomes.
