Q

describe the process of affinity maturation

A

b cells go to the germinal centres in the lymph nodes and spleen
they start to mutate the Fab ends of the antibody
if its a better fit to the antigen, it receives growth factors to allow it to proliferate
this continues until its the perfect fit

Q

explain the complement cascade

A
10 types of protein that are inactive in the body fluids
become active when they detect bacteria
bind to the bacteria to form a complex
forms a pore in the bacteria
causes it to pop so its killed
