humidity Flashcards
water vapor
is dependent on rates of evaporation and condensation
condensation can be due to
decrease in temperature or a increase in pressure.
this can happen in humified ventilator too. the water vapor goes along the tube which decreases in temp which would cause droplets
this is called raining out
vapor pressure is created by
molecules exert pressure as they hit the surface of the liquid while they are trying to scape. the higher the vapor pressure of a molecule the faster they evaporate
what does BTPS means
is the body temperature pressure saturated
absolute humidity
the actual mass(mg) of water present in a given volume of gas. as T increases the ability to hold water increases. 44mg/L at body temp and 18 mg/L at room temp
relative humidity
is the amount of gas expressed as a percentage .
relative percentage doesn’t change much what changes is the absolute humidity and this is due to the ability of gas to hold water.
humidity deficit may cause
- impaired cilia activity and movement.
- airway plugging
- retention of secretions/secretions thickening.
- increased infection risk
- increased risk of atelectasis
ISB
the point at which the air is full warmed and saturated with water is known as the isothermic saturation voundary and is usually just below the carina.
