2
Q

when will it have higher flow

A

The lower the FiO2 selected, the greater the size of the entrainment port and subsequently the greater the flow.

Q

what is the min volume of fluid needed in the SVN (small volume neb)

A

May consider diluting volume of drug with saline if volume is too small. Ideal volume is around 5ml. nebulization occurs during inhalation and exhalation. Inhalation is less than 40% of the respiratory cycle therefore 60% of the emitted aerosol is lost to the atmosphere. Increasing the volume in the SVN allows a greater proportion of the active medication to be nebulized and inhaled.

Q

why is MDI delivery preferred over SVN for med delivery ?

A

Smaller particle size and better deposition. less oral deposition, quick, lower infection risk
