Humidification Flashcards
Types of residential humidification
Pan type humidifier with plates Plates are placed in a vertical position in the Trey and draw in moisture from the pan, hydroscopic the warm air passes over the plates which causes water to evaporate and is carried off by the air. This humidifier has a very low humidification rate.
Wet element humidifier can be either power type or bypass type the power type uses a small fan for the bypass uses pressure differential from the return air and supply air both use either a cylindrical or flat pad that is either dipped in a pan to absorb water or has a nozzle spray water on it
Atomizing humidifier uses either a spray, nozzle, or a spinning disc or cone to atomize the water
Industrial humidifiers
Air washers basically air is drawn in and past spray nozzles where it can be heated, cooled, humidified, or dehumidified. Then it passes drift eliminators, which changed the direction of the air, causing the water to stick to the eliminator and drain down into the tank. Dehumidification is accomplished by having the spray water cool the air Below, it’s dewpoint so that the moisture in the air will condense out before it reaches the air handling unit with humidification. The air is kept above. It’s dewpoint so it can either absorb more water or just carry its relative humidity on through to the area receiving the air.
Steam grid humidifier – consist of a perforated pipe, usually wrapped with suitable felt wicking material steam is pushed through the holes in the perforated pipe and is picked up by the air flowing by the pipe not recommended as a on off control as wide fluctuations and relative humidity would occur steam pressure should be in the range of 5 to 10 psi to prevent splashing of condensate and increase in temp of the air supply uses a modulating control instead of on off
Pan type humidifier – not the same as the residential pan type. This one has a pan with a float valve, assembly overflow and drain connection with a electric heating coil in the pan the coil evaporates water, causing steam, which is picked up by the air that flows past the pan , this humidifier offers high capacity and accurate humidity control if used with a modulating control valve
