PFD’s

Process flow diagram is a simplified schematic of a plant or portion of a plant shows major equipment items in the major process flow between the equipment. They are not drawn to scale, but are helpful with general understanding of the process flows and control strategy. PFD‘s are good resources for the purpose of training new personnel.

A

Piping and instrumentation diagram unlike the simplified process flow diagram the piping and instrumentation diagram includes details of each major piece of equipment, the general piping orientation, the basic control and instrumentation devices and their orientation. It is not drawn to scale, and does not show the exact orientation of the equipment, except for order of occurrence.

P P and I D instrumentation symbols

A

When dealing with P and ID drawings containing instrumentation data board, mounted or control room instruments appear as a circle with a horizontal line through them. The field mounted instruments have no line note that the first letter stands for the measurement type were F equals flow P equals pressure T equals temperature and L equals level. The second letter is for the type of instrument.
