We have free will, we can control our behaviour etc no constraints
We have the ability to determine our own behaviour
Reject scientific methods cos we are active agents and all individual and unique
Maslow hierarchy of needs
Self actualisation - achieve all that we are able to full potential
Esteem - self confidence
Love and belonging - full happiness with relationships
Safety - security of employment , health and home
Security - basic needs for human survival
Self actualisation
Everyone has the innate tendency to achieve their full potential , to become the best they can possible be
All deficiency needs must be met prior to being able to achieve these
Personal growth is essential part of what it is to be human
The self , congruence and conditions of worth
For personal growth
✔️ the way individual sees them self must be equal to their ideal self
If too big of a gap they’ll be in a state of incongruence negatibe feelings of self worth etc
Client centred therapy
Reduces the gap between self and ideal self
Irradiate unconditional positive regard for them self thay is built from conditions of worth . Helps cope with problems of every day living
Roots are in childhood
Evaluation not reductionist
They view holism
See individual as whole
Don’t break up no seperate parts
Advocare holism
Must understand the whole person
Good validity because meaningful human behaviour in real life context
Evaluation limited application
Lacks sound evidence
It is not comprehensive
Loose set of abstract concepts
Evaluation positive approach
Promoting postitibe image of the human condition
Offers refreshing optimistic alternative
People are free to work towards where they want
Evaluation untestable concepts
Vague abstract ideas
Self actualisation
And congruence are difficult to measure or experiment
It’s anti scientific
No empirical evidence
