Bio Flashcards
Assumptions
We must look at biological structures to understand human behaviour your
- genes
- neurochemistrty
- nervous system
There is a genetic basis of behaviour - twin studies
Twin studies are used to demonstrate this. The concordance rate between having the same characteristics -exetent that both twins share the same characteristics
Twin studies example
Study of depression -compared the concordance rates in Monozygotic (identical) and dyzotic twins (non identical) MZ- 49% DZ- 17% Ord siblings - 9% Genes do determine behaviour
Genotype and phenotype
G- actual genes a person posesses
P- genes expressed through physical make up of these, can b determined by environmental factors
Natural selections
Genes that are most favourable or useful remain - naturally
Some traits five possesser advantages - reproduction !
Evaluation- scientific
Credibly
Highly controlled
FMRIs EEGS scanning techniques
With advances in technology reliable data
Evaluation real life app
Increased understanding of biochemical processes in the brain
- led to the development of psychoactive drugs to treat serious mental illness such as depression
- without such advances wouldn’t be available
- helps sufferers
Evaluation - casual conclusion
Too assuming
Doesn’t have strong enough link between drug and neurochemisty
Only association ! Not giving a cause
Evaluation determinist view of behaviour
Human behaviour is only governed by internal biological causes with no control!!
Impacts on legal system as suggests people aren’t in control on their actions
