What is the object of the will ?
Good
What are the two types of good ?
- Ontological / real good
2. Apparent good.
What is ontological good ?
This is what will satisfy the will.
What is apparent will ?
This is what is pleasing but does not bring real happiness.
What is a universal good ?
The object of the will is not this or that good, but the good in its most universal connotation.
What is the relationship between intellect and will
The action of the will follows that of the intellect.
Why is intellect and will connected ?
It is impossible for someone to choose something he does not know.
What is the relationship between freedom and human will ?
The nature of the will is choosing something because its good which is freedom.
What are the two aspects of the will ?
- Voluntas ut natura
2. Voluntas ut ratio
What is voluntas ut natura
This is the will moved by the notion of good in itself. It is moved by anything that has been grasped by the intellect.
What is voluntas ut ratio
This is the will that is moved by the aspect of goodness found in something.
This is the level where there is some indetermination.
What do we materially equate happiness to ?
- Utilitarian value
- Pleasurable
- Immaterial
- Rational knowledge
- Free choice
- Idealism
