This is a process to address the
organization’s competitive challenges by integrating goals, policies and action sequences into a cohesive whole.

- Finding the right people (selecting, recruiting)
- Managing talent (training, apprasial- 360 feedback etc)
- Maintaining an effective workforce (salary & benefits that meet worker needs)

What are the elements of finding the right people in HRM?
Attracting workforce- planning, choosing recruitment sources, selecting candidates & welcoming new employees
Forecasting HR needs- vacancies, succession planning
Recruiting- accessing organizational needs and recruiting (traditional vs contemporary)
Selecting- Employers assess applicants for a “fit” and may use traditional (resumes, interviews) or contemporary (aptitude/ IQ testing)
What is the impact of legislation on HRM?
HR managers must stay on top of legal and regulatory environment (Discrimination, Sexual Harrassment Guidlines)
What are some innovations in HRM?
- Using part time employees to keep costs low
- Promoting work-life balance
What are some performance evaluation errors
- Stereotyping – placing an employee into a class or category based on a few characteristics
- Halo Effect – giving same ratings on all dimensions regardless of differences
