Q

What is the effect of eutrophication?

A

Fertilisers stimulate rapid growth of algae. Competition for light increases so plants die. Microorganisms feed on dead plants. Respiration by increased amounts of microorganisms lowers O2 levels. Aerobic organisms die due to lack of oxygen. Water can no longer support life.

Q

Give some negative effects of deforestation

A

Increased the release of CO2, due to burning of the trees or decay of the wood by microorganisms.
Reduced rate at which CO2 is removed .
