Human Health- Diet, Micro-Organisms, Lifestyle Flashcards
What are inherited factors and environmental factors that effect your health?
Inherited diseases eg. cystic fibrosis
Environmental factors eg. nutrition and lifestyle
Explain the role of antibiotic in human health and explain antibiotic resistance.
-Antibiotics are chemicals produced by bacteria and fungi used to treat diseases caused by other bacteria and fungi. They have no effect against viruses.
-Antibiotic resistance is a result of misusing antibiotics eg. not finishing prescription, taken for viruses
the micro-organisms evolve and become immune to the antibiotic. The immune micro-organisms can now also be passed to other people
Explain harmful and the importance of bacteria
Importance: produces antibodies, cheese and yogurt, decomposers in nature
Harmful: pathogens cause diseases eg. sore throat, spoil food, tooth decay
Explain immunity
Body’s way of protecting against infection or disease eg. vaccination to help develop immunity.
Explain viruses
- Not cells
- Tiny particles made up of a proton coat that surrounds a nucleic acid (DNA or RNA)
- Reproduce using a host cell
eg. flu, measles, HIV
