Human Body Flashcards
What is anatomy?
The study of the structure of body parts and their relationship to one another
What is physiology?
The study of function of body parts; how they work to carry out life-sustaining activities.
The chemical level includes:
Atoms and molecules
The cellular level includes:
organelles and single cell
The tissue level includes:
groups of similar cells
The organ level:
Contains two or more types of tissues
The organ system level:
organs that work closely together
Organismal level:
All organ systems combined to make the whole organism
The maintenance of life involves:
Maintaining boundaries, movement, responsiveness, digestions, metabolism, digestion, excretion, reproduction and growth
What are the 2 types of movement?
External and internal
What forms the external body covering?
The integumentary system
What are functions of the integumentary system?
Protect deeper tissues from injury, synthesize vitamin D, house cutaneous receptors and sweat and oil glands.
What is the fast acting control system of the body?
The nervous system
What allows manipulation of the environment, locomotion, and facial expression?
The muscular system
What maintains posture and produces heat?
The muscular system
