CNS and ANS Flashcards
Crash course flash cards
The fluid in your central nervous system that cushions the brain and spinal cord and provides some nourishment.
Cerebrospinal fluid
The midbrain, pons, and madulla oblongata make up this general region of the brain, which regulates basic, vital, involuntary body functions.
Brain Stem
The set of neurons in the ANS that are distal to the ganglia, are relatively long in the sympathetic division, and relatively short in the parasympathetic.
Postganglionic fiber
In the autonomic division, this place where neurons meet is located close to the spinal cord to ensure excitatory messages can be quickly spread through the body
Sympathetic ganglia
The division that prepares your body for fight or flight.
Sympathetic division
The division that calms the body.
Parasympathetic divison
The branch of the peripheral nervous systems that carries signals to internal organs, smooth and cardiac muscles, and glands.
ANS
The place where neurons meet is located close to the effector organs so that messages tend to be very specific to that organ.
Parasympathetic ganglia
The set of neurons in the ANS that are distal to the ganglia, are relatively long in the sympathetic division, and relatively short in the parasympathetic.
Postganglionic fibers
The set of neurons in the ANS that are proximal to the ganglia, are relatively short in the short in the sympathetic division and relatively long in the parasympathetic.
Preganglionic fibers
