Anatomical Position
Standing upright, facing forward, arms hanging on either side, palms facing forward, parallel legs, flat feet.
Supine Position
Laying horizontally w/ face and torso facing up.
Prone Position
Laying horizontally with face and torso facing down.
Superior
Toward the head end of the body.
Cranial
Bones that form the head.
Anterior / Ventral
The front of the body.
Inferior
Toward the bottom of the body.
Caudal
Tail or hind.
Posterior
Back.
Dorsal
Back Portion of the body.
Medial
Central / Middle.
Proximal
Closer to the center of the body than another part.
Deep
Away from the surface of the body.
Lateral
To the side of, away from the middle of the body.
Distal
Farther from the head than another body part.
Superficial
Study of the external features of the body.
Sagittal Plane.
Longitudinal, vertical plane.
Frontal Plane.
Perpendicular to the ground, separates the front from the back.
Transverse Plane.
Horizontal Plane.
Brachial
Relating to the arm.
Ante brachial
Forarm.
Olecranal
Elbow | Long bone in the forearm.
Antecubial
Space inside the crook of the elbow.
Femoral
Thigh Bone.
Crural
Relating to the thigh or leg.
Cephalic
Head | Head end of the body.
Cervical
Neck region + abdome.
Thoracic
Area of the body between neck and abdomen.

Lower end of the spinal column.
