How plants use glucose Flashcards
how do plants use glucose for respiration?
glucose is needed for respiration (in the mitochondria) to even occur
how do plants use glucose for storage and energy for when it’s dark?
glucose converted to starch for storage. stored in cells of roots and leaves. provides energy for plant when it is dark/when there’s low light levels
how do plants use photosynthesis and seeds for storage?
energy produced from photosynthesis is used by plant to make proteins which are found in seeds and fats, which are found in seeds.
how do fruits use glucose?
glucose are simple sugars that join together to make complex carbohydrates such as fructose
how do plants use glucose for cellulose?
glucose can be joined together to form cellulose which help with strengthening the cell walls
how do plants use glucose for protein synthesis?
to make amino acids. they combine sugar w/ nitrate ions and other minerals from the soil. these amino acids can then be built into proteins.
starch is insoluble, define insoluble.
something that is easy to be stored
what colour does the iodine turn if starch is present?
blue/black
why should more starch be present if a plant photosynthesis a lot?
because more glucose would’ve been made and converted into starch
plants can’t store glucose, what do they convert it to instead?
starch
