what are some symptoms of poor mental health ?
Feeling sad or down.
Confused thinking or reduced ability to concentrate.
Excessive fears or worries, or extreme feelings of guilt.
Extreme mood changes of highs and lows.
Withdrawal from friends and activities.
Significant tiredness, low energy or problems sleeping.
what are some different types of mental health disorders ?
bipolar, dementia, anorexia, OCD, PTSD, postnatal depression, psychosis, schizophrenia, self harm, alzheimer’s
why do people with mental health issues not seek professional help ?
-They may not regard themselves as mentally ill, perhaps they think they are just having a hard time at the moment
-They might not want to admit that they have a mental health problem- stigma
-They may be frightened to seek medical help, worried that being diagnosed as depressed or phobic would affect their employment prospects
what is the mental health legislation ?
In the most serious cases of mental ill health people can be detained under the Mental Health Act 1983 (Amended 2007).
They can be admitted to the hospital, detained or treated without their own consent, either for their own health and safety or for the protection of other people
