Hot Washing Flashcards
What is APM Rule 213?
Hot Washing
What is the minimum nozzle pressure when Hot Washing?
Not less than 400psi (pounds per square inch) shall be used.
What is the minimum water resistivity to be used on energized lines?
500 ohms per inch cube
What is the minimum water resistivity for substations? 220kV? 500kV?
Not less than 20,000 ohms. inch or 20 micro-ohms. centimeter
How is water resistivity tested?
In using the tester, be sure that the tube is completely filled with water and that there is no bubbles to cause an erroneous reading.
The outside of the tube should be wiped dry before inserting it in the tester. Check the chart to determine resistivity.
What happens to ohms resistance as water temperature rises?
It decreases
What should be done with each load of water before it is used?
It should be tested.
How is Water Purging performed?
Prior to washing hot insulators, enough water should be discharged from the nozzle to get the hot water out of the hose.
After you signal the driver to turn on the water, point wash gun down and away from all insulators. Pull trigger and allow stream of water to clean all rust and dirt that may be trapped in pipes. If water comes out a brown/copper color, keep spraying until water is clean and clear.
What should be done when conductive hose is being pulled up a tower?
It shall be bonded to the structure at the upper end of the pull-up hose by an approved grounding device.
When can a nonmetallic hose be used?
On de-energized 500kV lines only.
What should be done when using a nonmetallic hose?
The gun must be grounded to the tower by an approved grounding device.
What should be done when washing insulators on towers equipped with fixed sprinklers?
The Pumper Tanker shall be grounded to the same tower with approved grounding equipment.
