Host response to biomaterials part 2 Flashcards
What is the objective of science?
Finding true propositions/norms about the world and reliable predictions
What is the objective of ethics?
Finding true about values (good or bad) and moral norms (what one ought to do)
What is Principle of proportionality?
states that responses should be proportional to the
good that can be achieved and the harm that may be caused
What is the principle of beneficence / no harm?
The obligations of nonmaleficence include
not only obligations not to inflict harm, but also not to impose risks of harm.
What is the principle of autonomy?
Every person should be respected in their decisions that
are not detrimental to others.
What are the two main pathways to blood coagulation?
Intrinsic pathway and extrinsic pathway
How is the extrinsic pathway initiated?
The release of tissue factor (TF) from damaged tissue cells due to external injury to a blood vessel.
How is the intrinsic pathway initiated?
Trauma to the blood itself or exposure of blood to exposed extracellular matrix (ECM) molecules in a damaged vessel wall.
How is fibrin polymerization crosslinking initiated?
by the presence of Factor XIIIa, causing clot formation.
How is the clot removed from fibrin polymerization?
After the wound has healed, activated plasmin then cleaves the
fibrin to dissolve the thrombus.
