3D printing Flashcards
What are the two types of 3D printing we talked about?
Extrusion and Light based (DLP)
Explain the components of an extrusion printer.
Temperature and pressure controlled syringes that extrude onto a petri dish or well plate with media
Explain the components of a DLP.
Photosentive resin printed from photosensitive resin
What are the two main concerns with an extrusion printer?
Extrudability and Viscosity
What is an example of a household material that would be good in an extrusion printer?
toothpaste
What is an example of a household material that would be good in a DLP printer?
Honey
What is the name for a good material in an extrusion printer?
Sheer thinning fluid
What is Bioink?
cells plus or minus media
What is a biomaterial ink?
no live cells
What are the three tests that are good for 3D printing?
over/under gelation (is the consistency good?)
filament collapse test (how strong is it?)
filament fusion test (does it all blob together)
What is the difference between the material* used in an extrusion printer vs DLP printer?
DLP printer uses a low viscosity fluid
What are the advantages of DLP printing?
rapid fabrication, high resolution, can use low viscosity
What are the slices of DLP imaging called?
sliced photomasks
What is a good application for DLP?
vasculature and capillaries
What is soft printing?
suspension/embedded bioprinting. uses a support bath for structures stability (ie spiral)
