Woody Plants

Bedding plant
Used to create flower beds and flower borders. May be annual or perennial but almost always herbaceous. Often sold as multiples in strips or trays or 4 in pots.
Aquatic Plant
Rooted under water
Plant that is adapted to grow in water or very wet soil.
Exotic plant
Brought into an area to which they are not native. Survival depends on care and tending by humans.
Accent plant
Landscaping term. Refers to plants different from others with which they may be grouped. The difference is not as marked as with specimen plants. It may be only a difference of height shape or texture.
Foliage plant
Plants prized more for their leaves and habit of growth than for their flowers or fruit. Grown indoors in temperate regions and outdoors in tropical or semitropical regions.
Epigynous flower
Inferior ovary attached to the stem below the other flower parts there is a floral tube but it is united with the wall of the ovary.
Naturalized plants
Brought into an area as exotics. Adapted well enough to escape cultivation and grow successfully as native plants.
