Hormones Flashcards
Where are steroid hormones produced?
Adrenal cortex ovaries and testes
Flat pig means what
FSH, LH, ACTH, TSH, Prolactin, Growth hormone in the anterior pituitary
FSH
Important for sertoli cells and so ovary/ follicle development, spermatogenesis
LH
Interstitial cells so produce testosterone and ovary and ovulation
ACTH
Adrenocorticotropic hormone is increasing cortisol from adrenal cortex, also increased growth
TSH
So it increases the synthesis and release of thyroid hormone
Prolactin
Goes to mammary gland to make milk
Growth hormone
Increases muscle growth and increased cell turn over rate
What happens in thyroid
Well TSH activates thyroid hormone from tyrosine with iodine and it can also be called thyroxin also it works like a steroid. Also it increases metabolism and heat and growth and development in kids
Thyroid c cells
Make calcitonin which decrease intercellular calcium works in kidney as well
Other
From the parathyroid acts on bone kidney and small intestine opposite of calcitonin
Thymus
Makes T cells which do autochrome with interleukin 2 mostly in kids
Adrenal medulla
Is epinephrine which is done from symp system it’s a stress response
Adrenal cortex
Anything from here is a steroid so cortisol and aldosterone and sex steroids
Cortisol
longer term stress response increase blood glucose in order to increase energy and protein catabolism and decrease inflammation with immunity
