What is the pituitary gland
Regulates body conditions, also acts on other glands
What is the thyroid gland
Produces thyroxine, regulating rate if metabolism, heart rate, temp
Adrenal gland
Produces adrenaline, ready for a body response
Ovaries
Producse oestrogen, involved in menstrual cycle
What is the pancreas
Producses insulin, used to regulate the blood glucose lvl
What are the testes
Produce testosterone, controls puberty and sperm production
Difference between nerves and hormones
Nerves are much shorter and faster and aimed in a specific area, hormones are the opposite
What hormones are involved in controlling blood glucose lvl
Insulin and glucagon
What is added if blood glucose lvl is too high
Insulin, turns gkucose into glycogen
What is added if blood glucose lvl is too low
Glucagon is added, turns glycogen into glucose
Where is excess glucose stored
Stored as glycogen in the liver and muscles
What part of the body produces hormones
Pancreas
What is tyoe 1 diabetes
Pancreas produced little to no insulin
What is type two diabetes
Someone is resistant to their own insulin
Female reproductive hormone?
Oestrogen
Male reproductive hirmone?
Testosterone
What 4 hormones control the menstrual cycle?
FSH, Oestrogen, LH, Progesterone
What is FSH?
-produced in pituitary gland
-causes eggs to mature
-stimulates ovaries to produce oestrogen
What is Oestrogen?
-produced in ovaries
-lining of uterus grows
-stimukates the release of LH
What is LH?
-in the pituitary gland
-stimulates the release of an egg at day 14
What is progesterone?
-produced in ovaries
-maintains the lining of the uterus
Types of contraception
-contraceptive patch(contains P and O)
-contraceptive implant( only P)
-contraceptive injection (only P)
-pill( contains P and O)
