- secretes Follicle stimulating hormone and luteinizing hormone
- negative feedback mechanism

how does the process work?
A
- FSH develops primary follicle into Graafian follicle and oestrogen is produced
- oestrogen stimulates LH stimulation
- LH cause Graafian follicle to form corpus luteum
- progesterone levels increased and oestrogen (negative feedback)
- cycle starts again because pituitary is no longer suppressed

what is menopause?
A
- ovaries stop producing oestrogen and progesterone
- stop releasing eggs
- no menstruation
- atrophy (degeneration of sexual organs)
- bone mass loss
- increasing risk of cardiac disease
- hormone replacement therapy (HRT)

what is the difference between copulation and fertilisation?
A
- copulation : coitus; sperm deposited near cervix; start journey to fallopian tubes
- fertilisation : fusion of sperm nucleus with eggs nucleus to form zygote (diploid)
