Q

experiment for hookes law

A

1) measure the natural length of the spring (jsing a ruler) when no load is applied.
2) add one slotted mass at a time, allowing the spring to come to rest each time. measure the new length of the spring. the extension is the change in length from the natural length.

Q

describe a hookes law graph

A

1) the first part of the graph shows hookes law being obeyed: there is a straight line (going through the origin) relationship between force and extension, showing they are proportional
2) point E is the elastic limit/ limit of proportionality of the spring. as the force applied increases, extension levels off as the material begins to be permanently stretched and its natural length will haved increased.
