What is oestrogen?
- The main female sex hormone which is produced by ovaries
- makes egg mature and be released (ovulation).
- Inhibits FSH release and stimulates LH release.
- Makes the lining of uterus grow again after menstruation.
What is testosterone?
The main male sex hormone which is produced by testes, stimulates sperm production.
What happens to sperm after puberty?
Produced continuously.
What is FSH?
Follicle stimulating hormone, causes eggs to mature in the ovaries. Stimulates the ovaries to produce oestrogen.
What is FSH secreted by?
Pituitary gland.
What is oestrogen secreted by?
Ovaries
What is LH?
Luteinising hormone, stimulate release of egg from ovary (ovulation).
What is LH secreted by?
Pituitary gland.
What is progesterone?
Maintains lining of uterus, inhibits FSH and LH.
What is progesterone secreted by?
Empty follice in ovaries.
How often is egg released by ovulation?
Every 28 days, although can vary.
