Homeostasis - Control Of Blood Glucose Flashcards
What is homeostasis ?
Maintaining a constant internal environment eg
Blood glucose - glucose levels
Osmoregulation.- water content
Thermoregulation - temperature
What things increase and decrease glucose levels?
Eating foods
Normal metabolism removes glucose
Exercise remove glucose
Excess glucose is in glycogen in liver
When they are full it is stored as fat
Changes are controlled by the pancreas
What happens if blood glucose is too high?
Pancreas secretes insulin
Glucose moves into liver from blood
Insulin makes liver turn glucose glycogen
What happens if the blood glucose level is too low?
Then glucagon is secreted.
Glucose is released into blood by liver
Glucagon makes liver turn glycogen into glucose
