Homeostasis And Control Flashcards
What is Homeostasis
Maintaining an optimum internal environment in the Body. This needs to happen in response to internal and external changes
What are the internal changes that need to be controlled
Body temperature
Water content of the blood
Sugar levels in the blood.
What do Receptor Cells do?
A Receptor cell picks up an a charge (sense)
What do Sensory Neurones do?
A Sensory Neurone carries Electrical impulses to the Central Neurone System from a Receptor cell.
What do Motor Neurones do?
Motor Neurones carries electrical impulses from the Central Neurone System to an Effector.
What does a Effector do?
An effector Communicates with the Brain with information.
What is Hormonal Control?
The Endocrine system works alongside the nervous system to maintain a constant internal environment (Homeostasis).
What is a hormone?
A set of chemical Messengers, that trigger a specific response
Where are Hormones released from?
Hormones are released to the Glands
How do Hormones travel around the Body.
In the bloodstream.
