Q

What and how is ion content regulated?

A

Ion content is regulated by the kidneys.
Ions taken into the body in food
If the food contains too much of the ion then the excess needs to be removed
Some ions are lost in sweat
The kidneys remove the excess from the blood - this is got rid of in the urine

Q

What/how is body temperature controlled?

A

Controlled by the brain.
All enzymes work best at 37 degrees
A part of the brain works as a thermostat it’s sensitive to the blood temperature in the brain and receives messages from the skin that provide info about skin temp

Q

How is blood sugar controlled?

A

1) Eating foods containing carbohydrates puts glucose into the blood from the gut
2) Normal metabolism = removes glucose form blood
Vigorous exercise = much more glucose removed
3) Insulin helps maintain the right level of glucose in the blood so your cells get a constant supply of energy
