Homeostasis Flashcards
What is Homeostasis
The regulation of the conditions in the body to maintain a stable environment
Why is homeostasis important
Cells need right conditions to function properly and enzyme action
How is Homeostasis maintained?
Body has automatic control systems that regulate internal environment = nervous and hormonal communication systems
What does the body need to maintain?
Body temp, water content, blood glucose level
What is automatic control systems made up of
Receptors , coordination centres , effectors
What does negative feedback do
Counteracts changes
When is negative feedback needed
When level of something’s gets to high or low so negative feedback used to bring to normal
How does negative feedback work
The receptors detect level is to high or low - coordination centre receives and processes info and organises response - effector produces response which counteracts change and restores optimum level - level increases or decrease
